Kingdom Hearts 4 Skips State of Play Again, Fans Losing Hope

The latest PlayStation State of Play was an exciting showcase, but once again, it came with disappointment for Kingdom Hearts fans. Despite high hopes, there was no sign of Kingdom Hearts 4, leaving fans feeling frustrated and disheartened.

Another No-Show for Kingdom Hearts 4

Square Enix first announced Kingdom Hearts 4 in early 2021 during the series’ 20th-anniversary celebration. The announcement came as a surprise, considering Kingdom Hearts 3 was still relatively new. Fans were optimistic that this meant a shorter wait time for the next installment.

Now, over 1,000 days later, that optimism has faded. Aside from a few sparse details from series creator Tetsuya Nomura, there has been no new footage, trailers, or major updates about the game. Every major gaming event brings renewed hope—and repeated disappointment.

State of Play Sparks Hope, Then Frustration

This time, the anticipation was tied to PlayStation’s first State of Play of 2025. Many fans speculated that Kingdom Hearts 4 could make an appearance, especially with the showcase happening so close to Valentine’s Day—a fitting occasion given the game’s theme of hearts. Unfortunately, Square Enix was completely absent from the event, dashing any remaining hopes.

Twitter and Reddit were flooded with reactions, with many fans expressing their frustration. Popular Kingdom Hearts content creator TheGamersJoint summed up the disappointment, noting that Square Enix was “TRULY MIA” and lamenting the lack of a clear release schedule. Another user, aitaikimochi, described the fanbase as being in “shambles” after yet another missed opportunity.

A Familiar Struggle for Fans

This isn’t the first time a dedicated fanbase has felt let down by a lack of updates. Fans of Bloodborne and Hollow Knight: Silksong know the pain all too well, with each new gaming event bringing fresh disappointment. Now, Kingdom Hearts fans find themselves in the same frustrating cycle.

Even Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link, a mobile spin-off expected to release soon, hasn’t done much to lift spirits. While it offers some content for fans, it’s not nearly as highly anticipated as the next mainline entry.

With another State of Play come and gone without a Kingdom Hearts 4 update, fans are left waiting once again. Hopefully, the next big gaming event will finally break the silence and bring some long-awaited news.
