ITC Shares Trade Ex-Demerger, Adjusted Price at ₹455.60; Investors Eye ITC Hotels Listing

Shares of ITC Ltd. have begun trading ex-demerger as of January 6, 2025, meaning they no longer include the value of the company’s hotels business. In a special trading session on the BSE and NSE, the market has adjusted ITC’s share price to ₹455.60. This represents a ₹26 or 5.4% drop on the NSE, and a ₹27 or 5.6% decline on the BSE.

The special pre-open session for price discovery of ITC Hotels took place from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM on January 6. Normal trading resumed at 10:00 AM. The final price for ITC Hotels shares will be determined based on the difference between the closing price of ITC shares on January 3 and the open price set during this session.

ITC Hotels Demerger Details

The demerger allows shareholders to receive one ITC Hotels share for every 10 ITC shares they hold. The record date for this demerger is today, January 6, 2025, and ITC shares are now trading ex-demerger. The Effective Date for the demerger was January 1, 2025. The listing date for ITC Hotels has not yet been announced, but once it is listed, its market capitalization will be calculated based on its market price, which will impact its inclusion in indices like Nifty 50 and Sensex.

For the time being, the market capitalization of ITC Hotels will remain fixed at the price discovered in the special session, but it will be updated once trading begins after the listing.

ITC Stock Price Outlook

Following the demerger, ITC shares have seen a price adjustment of ₹27 lower after the ex-demerger date. Currently, ITC shares are trading at ₹455 apiece on the NSE. According to Ganesh Dongre, Senior Manager — Technical Research at Anand Rathi, the stock has established a strong support level at ₹430, which is expected to hold.

He recommends that investors remain invested and consider adding more shares in the ₹430 to ₹450 range, maintaining a strict stop-loss at ₹100 below the current price. He further suggests that fresh investors can enter on dips in the ₹430 to ₹450 zone, with a stop-loss at ₹400.

Dongre also predicts that ITC shares could rise to ₹480 in the near term and potentially reach ₹520 if it breaks through the ₹480 mark on a closing basis.
