Margit Returns in Elden Ring: Nightreign—And He’s More Terrifying Than Ever

Elden Ring: Nightreign introduces a thrilling new challenge for players—Margit, the Fell Omen, can now launch a surprise attack at any moment. This new encounter, which occurs randomly on Day 2, forces players into a deadly chase across the entire map. The only way to stop him? Defeat him—or die trying.
A Relentless Pursuer
In the original Elden Ring, players believed they had bested Margit at Stormveil Castle, only for him to return in a shocking ambush near Leyndell. Nightreign takes this concept even further by unleashing him at the worst possible moment. If he spawns during your match, the entire map is engulfed in a red zone, and Margit will not stop hunting you down until someone falls.
Survive, and You’ll Be Rewarded
Players who manage to defeat Margit in this chaotic encounter will earn a significant reward—a boost to all damage dealt for the remainder of the match. However, if every player in the area dies, they respawn with a permanent increase to damage taken, making future fights even harder. Death also results in a level drop, setting players back significantly before facing the final boss of the day.
Running Won’t Save You
Margit’s aggression in Nightreign is unmatched. While some encounters allow players to flee, Margit’s pursuit is relentless. He can teleport when players gain too much distance, cornering them in tight spaces like underground mines. If you find yourself being chased, open fields provide the best chance for survival.
Facing Margit Twice in One Day?
As if one encounter with Margit wasn’t enough, he is also a potential final boss at the end of Day 2. This means players could be forced to fight him twice in the same run—once during his ambush and again as the main boss. While this wasn’t confirmed during the preview, it adds to the already punishing nature of Nightreign.
Other Random Encounters
Not every random event in Nightreign is as brutal as Margit’s ambush. Another encounter found during the preview was marked by a much smaller red circle on the map, leading to a battle against an army of giant ants. These enemies were far easier to defeat, and players were rewarded with random boons—such as increased invincibility frames while rolling—after clearing the horde.
Prepare for the Nightmare
Margit’s return in Elden Ring: Nightreign is a brutal reminder that no enemy is truly defeated in the Lands Between. His relentless pursuit and overwhelming power make him one of the most terrifying threats in the game. If you find yourself on Day 2 and see that red zone appear, brace yourself—Margit is coming.
