Marvel Rivals Developers Reject PVE Mode—But There’s Still Hope

February 14, 2025 – Marvel Rivals, the hit hero shooter from NetEase Games, has quickly become a multiplayer sensation since its late 2024 launch. Despite overwhelming player demand, the developers have confirmed that there are no concrete plans to introduce a full PVE (player-versus-environment) mode anytime soon.
PVE Mode Not in the Works—For Now
Millions of players have already jumped into Marvel Rivals, selecting their favorite Marvel characters and battling it out in team-based PVP combat. As the game continues to grow, many fans have been vocal about their desire for a co-op or narrative-driven PVE experience.
However, in a recent interview with IGN, Producer Weicong Wu stated that a “hardcore PVE” mode would be “totally different” from the current version of Marvel Rivals. Wu explained that developing such a mode would require a completely new design approach—one that may not fit within the game’s structure right now.
Could a “Lighter” PVE Mode Be Coming?
While a full-fledged PVE mode may be off the table, Wu did hint at the possibility of a “lighter mode” that could introduce some PVE elements. Though he didn’t provide specifics, his comments suggest that NetEase is experimenting with new gameplay ideas that could incorporate co-op features or AI-driven encounters.
Fans Shouldn’t Lose Hope
The absence of PVE in Marvel Rivals is disappointing to many, but it’s not necessarily a permanent decision. NetEase acknowledges the demand and appears to be exploring ways to expand gameplay beyond traditional PVP. Given the game’s rapid success, there’s still hope that future updates could bring some form of cooperative or narrative-driven content.
For now, Marvel Rivals remains focused on competitive hero shooter action, but with NetEase Games open to experimentation, fans may not have to wait forever for a taste of PVE.
