Overwatch 2 fans are buzzing with speculation after a doodle of a sword-wielding knight appeared in the recent Overwatch 2 Spotlight event. While nothing official has been confirmed, some players believe this could be a teaser for hero 45, expected to arrive in Season 20 in late 2025.
Is Hero 45 a Gladiator?
During the Spotlight event, Blizzard introduced two upcoming heroes:
- Freya, a damage hero coming in Season 16
- Aqua (codename), a support hero set for Season 18
However, hero 45 remains a mystery, leading to speculation about a melee-based gladiator. Some fans noticed the knight’s silhouette resembles Magnus, a sword-wielding figure from Colosseo’s Hall of Champions. This ties into Overwatch 2’s Stadium mode, which is introducing Gladius, a new map inside Colosseo in Season 16.
Could Hero 45 Be a Melee Fighter?
In a discussion with content creator Frogger, game director Aaron Keller confirmed that melee heroes are being explored for Overwatch 2. The first-person perspective makes melee combat challenging, but developers have “a route” around the issue, possibly using third-person mechanics from the Stadium mode.
