Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2’s Datavault Update Brings New Tyranid Threat

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has received a datavault update, and while a new in-game archive may not sound thrilling at first, Saber Interactive has hidden a terrifying surprise within the patch. Alongside lore-filled databanks, the update introduces a hulking new Tyranid enemy armed with a biological artillery cannon.

Meet the Biovore: A Walking Nightmare

This monstrous new foe, called a Biovore, is exclusive to operations mode and appears in missions featuring nothing but Tyranids. It’s classified as an Extremis-level enemy, meaning “proper nasty” in Space Marine 2’s terms. The Biovore is deadly at both long and short range, lobbing explosive spore mines from its organic railgun while also shredding Ultramarines apart with its massive claws.

For those who enjoy Space Marine 2’s co-op horde mode, this addition shakes up combat dynamics by forcing squads to prioritize high-threat targets amid the swarms.

The Datavault: More Than Just an Archive

The headline feature of the update is the Datavault, a new chamber aboard your battle-barge where Tech-Priests gather intelligence on the Imperium’s many enemies. Players can complete ordeals to earn research data, which can be exchanged for requisition points, cosmetics, and armor pieces.

It’s a welcome addition for players looking for more progression mechanics, though let’s be honest—it’s hard to compete with a giant Tyranid with a back-mounted cannon.

Other Notable Additions:

  • New Eternal War Map – “Tomb”
  • Fresh Finisher Animations (including brutal executions for Zoanthropes, Scarab Occult Terminators, and Rubric Marines)
  • Operations Mode Balance Rework for better perk tuning
  • Final Difficulty Level: “Absolute”—for those who think Hard mode is for casuals

While Space Marine 2’s player count has naturally declined since launch, it still boasts a strong player base, with over 11,000 players actively engaged. Given Games Workshop’s satisfaction with its commercial performance, this may not be the last major update we see for Space Marine 2—or for more games in this style in the near future.
